It is amazing how rumors come and go around in Egypt. People talk about topics they have no idea about as if it is their PHD thesis.  Instead of checking out the facts, searching the Internet, or ask people of experience, they repeat the rumor as if it is a matter of fact.  This ignorance can cause serious trouble specially with ignorant people who don’t check out the truth and verify the facts.

In the past month, I heard two rumors, one personal related and the other business related and both were so faulty that I could not, but laugh out loud on the stupidity and ignorance of people.  The personal one was related to me getting married when actually my divorce is not yet processed, so my ex with whom I am on good terms, call me to congratulate me on my marriage when I am not even divorced.  The funny part is that the day of my supposedly marriage I was having dinner with my younger son in a restaurant and the next day I was in my office till 8 pm in the evening.  If my ex was stupid or ignorant, I could have been in real trouble.

The second one concerns a pharmaceutical product I work with in Egypt.  FDA and, CE approved and the most used in Europe and the United States, registered with the Ministry of Health in Egypt and used by most Key Opinion leaders in Egypt and around the world; the rumor creators decided that it was withdrawn from the Egyptian market, which can not be more ridiculous or further from the truth.  Why can’t these ignorant people go and check the Internet and find out if their rumors are true.  When Oprah Winfrey, the German, Egyptian and most TVs around the world are endorsing this product, empty headed and ignorant people are repeating the rumor.

The Internet now is our key to the world, anything happening is instantly reported on the Internet and in the news; can’t we just verify our information before we disseminate it further.  Wake up people, there is science, information and easy access to find out the truth, no need to imagine, build and create rumors because you don’t take the time to double check your information.

I love Egypt and Egypt will Prevail when its people are more scientific, structured and reasonable.
