Obama Speech … great still with a pinch of salt

By admin • Jun 4th, 2009 • Category: Culture, Economic, Education, Egypt, History, Media, Political, Religion, Social

I looked up for the Obama speech the minute he finished it at the Cairo University Poduim (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/04/us/politics/04obama.text.html?_r=2&pagewanted=all) and (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/jun/04/barack-obama-keynote-speech-egypt). It has been a great speech by all measures; he almost touched on each sensitive point that has been on our minds whether Muslim, Christian, Jew or secular.

I was impressed with all that came in his speech.  It felt as if he really feels our real and deep pains and what we suffer from daily.  However, my only disappointment that he mentioned the nuclear power in Iran, but no mention of Israel that owns already nuclear power and can be threatening to the whole region. Even though he said “ I understand those who protest that some countries have weapons that others do not. No single nation should pick and choose which nations hold nuclear weapons. That is why I strongly reaffirmed America’s commitment to seek a world in which no nations hold nuclear weapons”. Still it is a threat for the region that a small country like Israel should have nuclear power, and then we critcize Iran for it nuclear trials.

His speech on the whole represented all the pains that we feel in our hearts and he addressed all the points that we were hoping he will address.  The main topics of his speech as mentioned by President Obama himself:

  1. The first issue that we have to confront is violent extremism in all of its forms.
  2. The second major source of tension that we need to discuss is the situation between Israelis, Palestinians and the Arab world.
  3. The third source of tension is our shared interest in the rights and responsibilities of nations on nuclear weapons.
  4. The fourth issue that I will address is democracy.
  5. The fifth issue that we must address together is religious freedom.
  6. The sixth issue that I want to address is women’s rights.
  7. Finally, I want to discuss economic development and opportunity.

I must say that his speech was structured, well presented and very well accepted by the majority of the people and his call for peace as in all religions is so much needed.

We, Egyptians, thank you Barack Obama for choosing Egypt to be your platform while addressing the Muslim World, well advised and Egyptians are the most sympathetic people who will wait for you to fulfill your commitments as you promised.

We hope you enjoyed your visit, we did and we look forward for longer visits. Enjoy your Pyramids visit.

I love Egypt and Egypt will prevail.

You could not have commented in a better way. Chapeau, you have in short embraced the whole speech and I agree with you 100 percent. I hope the Muslim world understands and feels what President Obama is doing because he is another opportunity that came to its world even though opportunities only come once in a lifetime, but God is generous and has given the world another opportunity to make it a better place, I sincerely hope they appreciate and work together with this amazing President of the United States. 7. Hi there, I found your blog via Google while searching for first aid for a heart attack and your post looks very interesting for me.

  8. Nice blog! Keep up the good work.

  9. The man is a phenomena we all agree to that, but he rules through congress which is controlled to some extent by the jewish lobby. George Bush the first was not re elected because he blocked a big loan guarantee to Israel in 1991.
So Israel security is on top of any US president agenda, and when Ahmad Najadi made that stupid comment of throwing Israel to the sea, and repeated it twice,he gave them every excuse to dissarm Iran from any nuclear ability. You cannot blame the american administration for working to the benefit of the american people, and Israel is a strategic allye.
At the same time Saudi kingdom stability is also top priority, let me inform you that most “saudi” republicans live in the US under the eyes and controlled by the leash of the FBI.The rest live in England.Four years ago I attended a debate in California where everybody agreed that Israel and Saudi are the 51st and 52nd state, but we debated which is the 51st and which is the 52nd!! and because i saw with my eyes my republican saudi friends being watched (I lived in the states for 15 years)by the FBI, and the documentry Fahrenheit 911 was just released, I was for the saudi option as 51st state!!
